Update: #2385 (comment)
I was trying to document hiking routes by adding pictures of the signs and markers but the Guideposts theme only shows the signs, not the marker.
Example: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/12771760025
It might be possible to cooperate with https://hiking.waymarkedtrails.org/ on promoting this theme over there.
This might be a duplicate to #1843 but that does not specify a theme, I think.
#1843 (comment)
Guidepost theme is mainly intended as object-focused / theme-independent single layer theme.
It is understandable you would want the layer included there, though, to avoid confusion between the two.
In the meantime I found the https://mapcomplete.org/walkingnodes.html theme which shows both, the guideposts and markers.
So I wonder, why is the Guidepost theme actually searchable and findable? It looks to me, it should be hidden because it is the less ideal choice one can pick between the two…
I renamed the issue accordingly.
Guideposts theme: Addto Hide guideposts.html theme in favor of walkingnodes.htmlinformation=route_markerBecause the guidepost-layer was created first. Later on, the guideposts were included in the walking nodes and cycling nodes thematic maps, making the theme obsolete (but without being questioned).
The main question is if there are people who would like to edit this type of data without needing the walking/cycling node map.
@pietervdvn I think having a well curated list is important and having two things that are very similar is confusing. I don't see any reason to have the guidepost theme public/findable when the other does the same (and has filters…).
I had a look into this, the "cyclenodes" and "walkingnodes"-themes indeed show guideposts, but both show only a subset of them, with
hiking=yesandcycling=yesrespectively. This is incorrect - a contributor might not see a guidepost 'cause it has incomplete tagging. However, this also means a general 'guidepost'-theme (which show all) still has value
And to add insult to injury: the 'cycling' and 'walking'-nodes theme currently are hidden themes...They both have the correct 'zoomed in' layers
